Get ready for league play!
So you’ve finished your first Learn 2 Curl class and are eager for more curling action, eh?
Your next stop: Windy City Curling’s Rookies League!
Our four-week session is designed to teach you how to become a great teammate any night of the week. The goal with Rookies League is to get you comfortable joining a team in any casual or competitive setting, to get you the most enjoyment out of your Windy City Curling membership.
Each Rookies session starts with a brief classroom lesson from one of our veteran members, who will teach you about a different aspect of the game.
Then it’s time to hit the ice! Working in smaller groups, you’ll get a simple on-ice drill to improve your skills.
After that, we split into teams, and play a few ends of a real game. Our instructors will be right there with you the entire time, offering guidance, tips and tricks, and answers to your questions.
We rotate through four distinct classroom lessons & on-ice drills throughout the season, always going in the same order. This means as long as you don’t miss a class, you’ll get all four lessons and never have to play catch-up – no matter when you jump in.
Unlike our regular leagues, which have a defined start dates, we teach the Rookies League on a rolling basis. This allows anyone to immediately jump into the fun – no waiting!
You’ll be learning alongside fellow Rookies who – just like you – may have only taken a Learn 2 Curl class, or have been playing for a week or two.
Windy City Curling uses the service LeagueApps to manage all of our curling memberships and leagues. In order to register for Rookies League, you’ll need to create an account on that website, then register for the class.
If you’re new to Windy City Curling, and Rookies League is going to be your first straight out of a Learn 2 Curl class, we include a limited trial membership in the cost of the league. It grants you access to our club, locker rooms, playing equipment, and on-ice insurance for the 4-week session. The $10 Limited Membership will be automatically added to your Rookies League registration when you checkout.
(NOTE: An annual Full Membership will be required before you can join any leagues after Rookies.)
If you need a walkthrough on how to register in LeagueApps, we’ve included a visual guide on this page, and a list of of our full schedule in LeagueApps at the very bottom.
1First things first: At the LeagueApps Home Page, click on “Create Account.” Fill in your email address, whatever password you’d like to use for LeagueApps, and your first and last name.
After getting a New Registration confirmation, you’ll be asked to sign-in.
(For returning curlers who already have an account, simply sign-in.)
2Once you’re registered and signed in to your account, LeagueApps should automatically return you to the Rookies League registration process. (If it does, go ahead and skip to Step 4).
If it does not, click on “Leagues” in the menu at the top-right page, and then on “Curling” from the drop-down menu.
3You’ll be taken to a page where you’ll see all of the membership and league options at Windy City Curling.
Scroll down to find Rookies League and click on “Register.”
(Again, don’t worry about the “Limited Membership” requirement. That will automatically be added to your registration during checkout.)
4From there, it’s a simple matter of following the steps in the pop-up menu box.
5After that, fill in the Details:
6Next up: the all-important Waivers need to be read and agreed to. They can vary league-to-league, but will typically come from:
7Finally, the last thing you have to do is pay. LeagueApps offers payment options right there in the portal.
If you’re paying by a Debit or Credit Card, you can (if you wish) save that information in LeagueApps so it’s always at the ready.
NOTE: LeagueApps does charge a Processing Fee for all transactions. You’ll see it added to your total on this page before you pay.
For Returning Member Curlers: If you are signing up for a league and have already paid-in-full for an “All You Can Curl” package, this is the page where you click “Skip / Pay Later,” and we’ll take care fo the rest.
The last page you’ll see is a confirmation of your registration.
From here, you can register for more leagues or return to your Profile Dashboard.
If you have any oustanding balances, you’ll see them on your Dashboard. This is also where you can complete any additional steps required.
NOTE: For “All You Can Curl” members who clicked “Skip / Pay Later,” your Dashboard will temporarily show an outstanding invoice is due, but no further action is required on your part. Our site administrator will be notified of your registration, confirm your “AYCC” status, and then manually zero-out your balance to complete your registration process. (This usually takes less than 24 hours, depending on the day and time you complete the registration process.)
