How much money can we win?
This is, of course, what everyone wants to know, and… It depends! The final prize pool will be based upon registration and other factors. However, we hope to have a total prize pool of at least $7,000!
Will this event be a qualifier for USA Curling's 2025 5 & Under Nationals?
Last year were were, so we are hopeful! We have completed our application and been in contact with USA Curling. However, that announcment will not likely come until August.
Will WCF broom pads be required?
No, not for this event.
Why would we need a 5th player?
Who else is going to DD? But really, it isn’t required. We simply want to give teams the option to limit exhaustion and provide an opportunity for a relief sub.
How will you make sure all participants are under 5 years of experience?
By registering teams agree all of their team members have 5 years or less of experience. Per USA Curling's eligibility guidance, this means for MOST situations curlers began no earlier than 2019. Competition Documents, as amended in 2024, state:
U.S. citizenship or residency is required and all team members must be dues-paying members of USA Curling. Competitors must be 21 years of age on the 30th day of June immediately preceding the year in which the Five-and-Under Nationals take place. Delivery of the stone with a stick device is permitted, but players cannot switch to a stick device during a game.
a. Competitors cannot have more than a total of FIVE seasons of curling experience. A season of curling experience is defined as 10 or more games played between July 1 – June 30. Seasons where a player curled fewer than 10 games do not count against the total. Convenors at national qualifying event bonspiels will ensure that players are acting in good faith when claiming to be a competitor with five seasons or less of curling experience. The 2020-2021 (COVID) season does not count as a season of curling experience for any participant.
A SEASON IS DEFINED AS JULY 1 - JUNE 30.
IN MOST CASES, assuming continues years of curling, an eligible curler would have begun curling NO EARLIER than 2019.
To ensure fairness, if a team is found to have a team member who is not compliant, the organizing committee will take action. This may include possible forfeiture of draws or withdrawal from the event, subject to the discretion of the organizing committee. We will make every effort to verify with home clubs and, if necessary, receive confirmation from their NGB.
Are there going to be draws on Thursday?
Yes! The Spiel starts on Thursday. We're hoping to have 24-30 teams, which should fill draws starting Thursday..Teams should expect to play their first draw Thursday, but there is some availability for premium slots on Friday as well (see above).
Can Windy City (home club) teams sign-up?
Yes! We will accept four Windy City teams, initially. A Windy City team is considered to be any team with three or more Windy City Curling members. Additional Windy City teams will be waitlisted until July 1, 2024; after which time teams will be moved from the wait-list on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Are other clubs limited to a certain number of teams?
No. Any and all teams are allowed to compete. Our goal in limiting (initially the number of teams competing from Windy City is to host the largest number of teams, nationally, as we can. We will make an effort to avoid pools having multiple teams from the same club within the same pool -- no one likes traveling to play the same team you see each week in league!
What live entertainment will there be?
Introducing, JAMIE WOLF!
Named Phillies Phunniest and one of the "Top Up & Coming" comedians of the year. See some of his content on his Instagram account!
Are you accepting sponsorships?
Yes! If you are participating, or if you are not, we are seeking sponsorships with interested businesses or individuals. We are offering multiple tiers of sponsorship for all budgets, and each tier has its own incentives, including custom jerseys, corporate or private learn-to-curl packages, in ice advertising and merchandise!
